Like the majority of our Directors I came from a long legacy of NHS workers who worked very hard but outside were still committed to making the world a safer, better and fairer place to live and work. Therefore, it was an honour for me to be elected a Director and then chair of the board of the NHS Credit Union. Being a Director in a co-operative business, that puts people before profit, combines my twin passions of co-creating exciting opportunities and making a difference in people’s everyday lives. I very much enjoy representing and serving our members interests and it’s a source of pride that our boards first priority is to ensure our values of democracy, equality and caring for others are at the core of everything the credit unions does. Being the Chair has many challenges, but it would be disingenuous to say I didn’t embrace the prospect, I have found great satisfaction sharing skills in consultancy, executive leadership, organisational research and transformational change. In my downtime I would like to do nothing! If I ever thought I could get away with it. And, I have to admit despite being an extrovert I do love peace and quiet in the garden and time to read, or just walking my dogs, my most favourite thing though is spending time just talking and having a laugh with friends.
