COVID-19 – Member Update

At the NHS Credit Union we put our members at the forefront of everything we do. As we face unprecedented times with the COVID-19 pandemic we understand the additional pressures this brings to you in your already demanding roles within the NHS.

Both the UK and Scottish Governments have announced a series of measures to support the population through this difficult time and while the Credit Union movement has been asked by Her Majesty’s Treasury what assistance could be provided to Credit Unions, none of the support measures announced to date help us. While the banks have been given access to low cost funding to provide loans we have not. The banks have also had their capital requirements relaxed. The recent measures announced by the Prudential Regulation Authority have sadly made no difference to Credit Unions such as ours.

Regardless of these circumstances we remain committed to helping members who are struggling during this difficult time in any way we can. We cannot however provide blanket payment holidays but we will consider other options.

If you find yourself in difficult circumstances where you think we can help, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Please bear in mind that our staff are also affected by the impact of the Coronavirus. We will require supporting evidence to allow us to make a decision on individual cases and we ask that you provide such evidence if asked and we will also ask if you have considered utilising the government backed payment holiday facilities provided by other organisations. It allows us to decide on the best option to help your individual circumstances.

Due to our staffing levels being impacted, we may be unable to provide you a decision in the times that you would be accustomed to but we will work as hard as we possibly can to get a decision to you as quickly as possible.

We pride ourselves in the professional and speedy service we provide on our loan applications however timings may be affected by potential staff shortages of which we apologise for in advance.
